City Attorney

The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council as chief legal advisor to the City Council, City Manager, operating departments, and commissions. The Attorney provides a full range of legal services to the City, and manages outside special counsel.


The City Attorney focuses on the legal options and risks associated with City actions, and drafts necessary legal documents, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other documents pertaining to the City's business. The City Attorney defends and prosecutes or retains counsel to defend and prosecute all civil actions and proceedings to which the City is a party and prosecutes enforcement actions involving the Saratoga Municipal Code.

The City of Saratoga receives legal services through contract with the firms of Shute, Mihaly and Weinberger LLP, and Wittwer and Parkin LLP, which represent cities throughout California.
