Council Member Mary-Lynne Bernald was elected to the Saratoga City Council in 2014. Prior to her election, she served on the Saratoga Planning Commission for a total of ten years and chaired the Commission three times.

Council Member Bernald holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in Political Science and a Certificate in Human Resource Development and Training from the University of California/Santa Cruz.
In 1978, Council Member Mary-Lynne Bernald and her husband, Gene, settled in Saratoga. She is now proud to call Saratoga her hometown. It is where she and her husband raised their two grown sons, Jamie and Jeff.

As a Saratoga resident, she has served as a community volunteer for numerous causes, everything from coaching a local soccer team and leading a Cub Scout troop to volunteering in downtown Saratoga at The Butter Paddle and as a paralegal for Senior Adults Legal Assistance (SALA), from serving on the Library Expansion Committee to presenting seminars on Developing and Maintaining Community Collaborations.

Council Member Bernald was appointed by the Cities Association of Santa Clara County to serve on the Select Committee on South Bay Arrivals from April to November 2015, where she represented over two million citizens of the South Bay. In her role on the Select Committee, she reviewed FAA proposals deemed feasible, received constituent input, and made consensus-based recommendations regarding airplane noise to House of Representatives Anna Eshoo, Jackie Speier, and Sam Farr.
