Tree Dedication Program

Saratoga residents can dedicate a tree in honor of their relatives, friends, volunteers, and other community members. Trees dedicated through this program are placed on City property, usually in City parks or along Saratoga trails.

The Saratoga City Council and the Saratoga Monte Sereno Foundation have contributed funding to the Tree Dedication Program to reduce the cost of trees for the public. There are a limited number of trees available at this price, and tree dedication grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please allow 5 to 6 weeks for delivery.

Apply for a Dedication

Tree Dedication Program applications will reopen in July 2023.

When the application period has opened, the Parks Division will contact you upon receipt of your application. If approved, you will be notified via email and required to submit a check for payment by mail or in person. All checks should be made payable to the “City of Saratoga.”

Tree dedication costs $840. This includes the tree, planting, labor, and rock/post to mount the plaque.

There is an additional cost for plaques, which are available in the following sizes and prices:

  • 4 by 6 inches with 3 to 4 lines of text, 20 characters in each line: $280
  • 5 by 7 inches with 3 to 5 lines of text, 24 characters in each line: $330

Program Guidelines

The tree species and planting location will be determined by the City of Saratoga based on available irrigation and opportunities to replace dead or fallen trees in City parks. The City will ensure plaque engravings are appropriate and will be done in a specified size and style.

Please note, the tree is only a marker and is not a place of worship or official gathering place. Flowers and other memorabilia are not permitted. Trees will be planted in an area that receives regular irrigation, but the City cannot guarantee the future condition of trees.
