Saratoga Loves Poetry

Students in grades kindergarten through 12 who live or attend school in Saratoga are invited to participate in the Saratoga Loves Poetry contest! Winners in each age category will be selected to receive prizes and have their poems showcased by the City in November 2022.

 Rules

  • Only 1 submission per person 
  • Poem must be received no later than September 30
  • Poem must be 21 lines or less
  • Poem must be the original work of a student who is currently in grades kindergarten through 12 and lives or attends school in Saratoga 
  • Poem should be suitable for a diverse audience and help create a sense of place and community 
  • Poem should not contain political statements, religious references, profane or offensive language, copyrighted or trademarked material, or corporate references 

Contest Details

Submissions will be grouped into the following categories:

  • Kindergarten - Grade 2
  • Grades 3 - 5
  • Grades 6 - 8
  • Grades 9 - 12

Winners from each category will be announced in November and receive a special prize. The City will also showcase winning poems, including author photo, biography, and statement about their poem, in November.

Submissions

Submit your poem by September 30.

Submissions will also be accepted by mail or in person at Saratoga City Hall, City Manager's Department, 13777 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga CA 95070. Submissions returned by mail or in person must include a completed application form. Please check the City’s business hours before dropping poems off in person.
