Tips & Trends - Red Flag Warning
On Red Flag Warning Days, there is a high fire danger and the potential that wildfires can spread quickly. Fire stations will fly red-colored flags as a public warning to be on high alert. Follow these tips to stay safe:
- Mow the lawn before 10 a.m. when grass has the highest amount of moisture. Do not mow or trim dry grass.
- Avoid driving over dry grass. Park vehicles with hot catalytic converters only on paved or dirt areas.
- Avoid spark or flame producing activities while near dry grass, such as weed mowing or disking, metal cutting, grinding or welding.
- Review your evacuation plan and be ready to gather family members, pets, and valuables in case an evacuation is required. Consider moving pets or livestock to safer areas until the Red Flag Warning has ended.
