CZU Lightning Complex Fire Update CAL FIRE has issued an EVACUATION WARNING for parts of unincorporated Santa Clara County, outside Saratoga city limits. An evacuation warning is issued when there is a plausible threat for fire activity to increase. This nearby evacuation warning has been issued due to the potential for thunderstorms and dry lightning that could start new fires, and gusty and erratic winds that could spread existing fires.
Though the evacuation warning does not include Saratoga at this time, residents are still advised to prepare now for the possibility of an evacuation if conditions worsen. To prepare, Saratoga families can agree on a meeting location outside the fire area in case they are separated, identify the route they would use to leave their homes, and decide how they would follow the evacuation warning steps outlined below.
While people within an evacuation warning area are not required to leave their home, it is strongly recommended that they prepare to leave. Those under an evacuation warning should:
- Evacuate as soon as possible if they have mobility or medical issues
- Relocate large animals to a safe location
- Prepare to evacuate by gathering personal items (toiletries, food/water, and clothing for upwards of 2-3 days), medications and medical devices, irreplaceable memorabilia (such as photographs and special mementos), important documents (like insurance documents, birth certificates, and necessary phone numbers), personal computers, credits cards and cash, and pets (including food and supplies)
- Evacuate before it becomes mandatory, if you feel uncomfortable, or see active fire behavior
If an evacuation is ordered, impacted residents should leave as early as possible. Evacuees will be directed to an Evacuation Center where they can find information and resources, such as sheltering options. The location of this center will be communicated in the evacuation order or by local law enforcement managing the evacuation. In the event of an evacuation order, the Sheriff’s Office will go street by street to ensure residents are aware. Additionally, the evacuation order will be communicated through AlertSCC, social media, and the local news media.
