COVID-19 UpdateThe number of Santa Clara County residents contracting COVID-19 and the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to rise significantly, reaching record levels. To help prevent a surge in hospitalizations over the capacity of hospitals in the County, the Health Officer announced changes to the Mandatory Directives. These changes require certain businesses to modify operations, reduce the number of people allowed inside facilities, and reduce the size of outdoor gatherings. There is also a Mandatory Directive on Travel that strongly discourages leisure and non-essential travel, and it requires anyone entering the County to quarantine for 14 days upon return from travel more than 150 miles away. More about the Revised Mandatory Directives is available on the County website at www.sccgov.org/coronavirus As a result of these extraordinary conditions, City Hall is closed to in-person visitors. City services will continue uninterrupted. For more information about accessing City services, please visit www.saratoga.ca.us/COVID19 The County of Santa Clara has moved back into the State of California’s Purple Tier of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Certain activities that were open under Orange Tier will no longer be allowed. Santa Clara County will remain in this tier until the State moves the County forward into the Red Tier. The most restrictive rules apply to the Purple Tier, and the least restrictive rules apply to the Yellow Tier. Remember, Santa Clara County residents must follow both the State and County Health Officer Orders. Where there is a conflict between the two, follow the more restrictive set of rules. The key to fewer restrictions is following public health measures. Counties can move to a less restrictive tier as COVID transmission goes down and testing goes up. Stay diligent about keeping your distance from anyone outside your household, limiting your contact with others, wearing your mask, getting tested, and following all protocols and directives.

Quick Tip from Captain RichDeck the halls safely this holiday season! Keep potentially poisonous plants, like mistletoe, holly berries, amaryllis, and poinsettias, away from children and pets. If using a live tree, make sure to place it away from heat sources, water it regularly, and remove it from your home when it’s dry. If you will be out of town, stop mail and newspaper delivery, and visit www.saratoga.ca.us/sheriff to request a patrol check.
