State of the City - November 6

Community Meetings with the Planning Commission

On October 27, the Planning Commission held their first community meeting as part of a series where residents can share their specific ideas about how to meet Saratoga’s housing targets. Please mark your calendar for upcoming meeting dates, and visit www.saratoga.ca.us/housing to learn more.

  • Tuesday, November 9 at 6 p.m.
    The Planning Commission invites you to please share your ideas for opportunity sites and policies.
  • Monday, November 22 at 6 p.m. 
    The Planning Commission will recap ideas shared at the first two meetings, invite new ideas, identify the pros and cons of opportunity site ideas, and further discuss policy ideas.
  • Tuesday, December 7 at 6 p.m. 
    The Planning Commission will prioritize opportunity sites and policies to identify those that are preferred and prepare a recommendation to the City Council.

Saratoga Retirement Community Information Meeting

The City of Saratoga will host a virtual Community Information Meeting to discuss an application for the Saratoga Retirement Community campus on Tuesday, November 16 at 6:00 p.m. The applicant, Saratoga Retirement Community/Pacific Retirement Services, Inc., will share information about their application, and the community will have the opportunity to ask questions about the application.

Highway 9 Tree Removal and Traffic Impact

Caltrans, in collaboration with Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council and Cal Fire, will be removing dead, dying, or diseased trees and vegetation on Highway 9 between Sanborn Road bridge to Highway 35 in Saratoga. Removal is needed to reduce flammable vegetation and create a safe evacuation route in event of fire. Vegetation removal will occur from November 1 to 19, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Free COVID-19 Testing on November 9

The County will hold a COVID-19 testing day on Tuesday, November 9 from  
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saratoga Prospect Center in Friendship Hall. Testing is free and open to the public. Make an appointment online.

Countywide Fire Services Study 

Santa Clara County is looking for feedback on its fire services! The County is working with Matrix Consulting Group to undertake a comprehensive, independent study of how to best organize and resource fire protection in the County. The first virtual town hall meeting was held on Thursday, November 4 and another will be held on Wednesday, November 10. The meetings will be held at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Residents can also take a survey on the county's fire safety. All responses are anonymous. The survey will be open until November 11 at 5 p.m. Take the survey online.

Holiday Events at Saratoga History Museum

This holiday season, the Saratoga History Museum has an international holiday exhibit, a virtual lecture about the Peninsular Interurban, a Saratoga railroad, and a live music event coming up! For more information, visit www.saratogahistory.com. 

Volunteer at Quarry Park

The Parks and Recreation Commission's Let's Work Program helps beautify and maintain the trails at Quarry Park. The volunteer group meets the second Saturday from November through April, weather permitting. The next meetup will be held Saturday, November 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. Please visit www.saratoga.ca.us/volunteer to submit volunteer forms. These forms must be submitted by the Wednesday before a Let's Work Event on Saturday.  Confirmed volunteers should meet in the Quarry Park parking lot and bring gloves, water, and sunscreen. Please wear closed-toed shoes and long sleeves. 

Holiday Tree Lighting and Wine Stroll 

Kick off the holidays with a one-of-a-kind Saratoga tradition! Enjoy the festivities the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 26 in downtown Saratoga. The Tree Lighting Ceremony is free to attend and begins at 5:30 p.m. in Blaney Plaza. The evening’s festivities also include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday performances, extended shopping hours, Village open house, a holiday exhibit at the Saratoga History Museum, and the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce Wine Stroll. Celebration of Light

Save the date for the Celebration of Light on Saturday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Blaney Plaza. This event is coordinated collaboratively by the Saratoga Ministerial Association and the City of Saratoga.
