Housing Element Updates

Opportunity Sites, Programs, and Policies
Thank you to everyone who has participated and shared their thoughtful comments with the City Council in writing or at meetings. At their meeting on February 16, the City Council approved the list of opportunity sites, distribution of units, and policies and programs to include in the project description for the Environmental Impact Report for the General Plan and Housing Element Update. You can view details on the City’s Housing Element webpage.

The City has now released the Notice of Preparation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Housing Element Update, Safety Element Update, 2040 General Plan Update, and associated rezonings. The EIR will address the environmental impacts associated with the adoption and implementation of this project.

Community members can submit comments on the scope of the environmental topics to be addressed in the EIR, as well as the range of practical alternatives to be evaluated. Share Your Feedback on Safe Routes to School

Attention parents, students, and community members! You're invited to review the map of school locations and recommended projects in the Safe Routes to School Master Plan, and share your feedback with the Traffic Safety Commission.

Safe Routes to School is a movement to create safe travel opportunities for children to walk or bike to school and community members to walk or bike around their neighborhoods. Saratoga's Master Plan will identify and prioritize a list of recommended projects to implement in the future as funding becomes available, either through the City's Capital Improvement Program or grant opportunities.

The Traffic Safety Commission will review feedback from the community and the draft Safe Routes to School Master Plan at their meeting on Thursday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. Visit www.saratoga.ca.us/SRTS to review the plan, submit your comments, and learn more.

Free Chamber Ensemble Concert Tomorrow

Enjoy a free Chamber Ensemble Concert on Saturday, March 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 pm in the Saratoga High School Music Building, 20300 Herriman Ave. The concert will include students from Saratoga High School, featuring flute, saxophone, and clarinet quartets, a brass quintet, and a trumpet-euphonium duet.

This event was organized by Christopher Okuno as part of his project to attain Eagle Scout Rank. He has coordinated four high school instrumental chamber groups and coached them through planning, leading, and performing a variety of works at local senior living centers. This final performance will showcase the efforts of all participating students for the entire community.

Local Roadway Safety Plan

The City of Saratoga is preparing a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP), which is a
framework to identify, analyze, and prioritize roadway safety improvements for City
roads. As part of the LRSP development, collision data will be analyzed to identify
improvement measures as well as projects at key locations. The LRSP is being
prepared in compliance with the State and Federal guidelines for eligibility to apply
for Highway Safety Improvement Program funding for roadway improvement
projects.

An LRSP webpage has been created and will continue to be updated with
additional information as this develops further. The City will present information regarding the LRSP at its Traffic Safety Commission Meeting on Thursday, March 10 at 8:00 p.m. and invites members of the community to attend the meeting.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in the Village

Join the Saratoga Village Development Council for St. Paddy's Party on Saturday, March 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Magical rocks will be hidden in the Village for children to discover and win prizes, and lucky pennies can also be found on the sidewalks!

Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Have you had your chimney or flue inspected this year? If you plan to use a fireplace or wood stove for emergency heating, have your chimney or flue inspected, and install a smoke detector and a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector. All fuel-burning equipment should be vented to the outside to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. For more information, please visit www.PrepareSCC.org/ColdWeather
