ARTbor Day Contest & Arbor Day

Are you an artist? Love creating images of the outdoors? Celebrate by participating in the City’s ARTbor Day Contest! Submit art inspired by Arbor Day by April 20 for the chance to win a prize. Selected winners will receive their prizes at the Arbor Day Celebration on Wednesday, April 27 at Kevin Moran Park at 4:00 p.m. Arbor Day attendees will receive free flower seeds and oak tree seedlings to plant at home, compost, resources, and refreshments. Free COVID-19 Testing

BigBang Artwork will offer free drive through COVID-19 testing on April 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Saratoga Prospect Center, 19848 Prospect Road. The PCR test results are typically available in 24-48 hours. One free N95 mask per visitor will also be supplied. Schedule a required appointment online.

The County will also hold a COVID-19 testing day on Tuesday, April 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Saratoga Prospect Center in Friendship Hall. Testing is free and open to the public. Appointments can be scheduled online. This site offers PCR molecular testing with results usually available within 24 to 36 hours.

Wildfire Preparedness Webinars

Learn how to reduce wildfire risk and better prepare your family and your home with a series of free webinars from Santa Clara County Fire Department. The webinars will cover how to evacuate safely, what to do if you are “dropped” by your insurer, and cost effective measures to improve your home’s fire resistance. The first webinar will be on Tuesday, April 26 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will also be a webinar on the Home Ignition Zone on Thursday, April 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on home insurance on Tuesday, May 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information or additional dates, visit sccfd.eventbrite.com

Share Your Feedback on Traffic Safety

Please review proposed traffic safety improvements for neighborhoods across Saratoga included in the Safe Routes to School Master Plan, then submit your feedback to the Traffic Safety Commission. The goal of Safe Routes to School is to create safe travel opportunities for children to walk or bike to school and for all community members to walk or bike around their neighborhoods. Volunteer at Quarry Park

Love spending time outdoors and meeting cool people? Join the Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (SCMTS) team for a fun day volunteering maintaining the beautiful Saratoga to the Skyline Trail! On Friday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Quarry Park, (22000 Congress Springs Road), you can help remove introduced species, such as French Broom and other overgrown vegetation, from the trail. Volunteering will requiring a 1/2 to 1 mile hike. All experience levels are welcome. Make sure to bring a big lunch and plenty of snacks and water. Teen Film Competition

Silicon Valley Clean Energy is providing $20,000 in scholarships for students as part of the second Empower Silicon Valley Youth Short-Film Competition. Through a short-film, local youth are invited to explore what a climate-friendly, clean energy world would look like and how we will get there. Online entries are due by Monday, May 2.
