Initial Draft of Housing Element Available for Public Review

The initial draft of the City’s 2023-2031 Housing Element is now available for public review on the City website. California jurisdictions are required by the State to update their Housing Element, a blueprint for future housing development, every 8 years to plan for projected housing needs. The draft Housing Element for the City of Saratoga would allow for over 1,700 new homes to be built in Saratoga between 2023 and 2031 based on State housing projections.

A public comment period on the initial draft is required before the City can submit the Housing Element to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for preliminary review. An updated draft along with the Environmental Impact Report will both be available for public comment in late fall/early winter 2022. Once the draft Housing Element has been updated to address HCD comments, Planning Commission and City Council hearings will be scheduled for final review and adoption.

Written comments (including name, affiliation, and contact information) on the initial draft can be submitted through July 5, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. to Community Development Director Debbie Pedro by email at dpedro@saratoga.ca.us or by mail to:
