Tips & Trends

In 2018, Saratoga and communities throughout the region saw an increase in car break-ins and thefts from vehicles. Keep your belongings safe by closing windows and locking your vehicle when parked. Criminals frequently test door handles to see if they are unlocked. Never leave items of value in plain sight in your vehicle. Thieves will frequently target vehicles if they see something tempting, including backpacks, spare change, or electronic devices.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Residents who call 911 to report suspicious activity are a great asset in catching criminals. However, many residents are unclear on what makes something suspicious. Here are some things to look for and report:

  • Alarm activations
  • Glass breaking
  • Dogs barking in an unusual fashion
  • Slow moving vehicles
  • Vehicles driving with lights off at night
  • Vehicles unattended while running
  • Unknown vehicles parked at a neighbor’s house
  • People behaving strangely
  • People going door to door
  • Strangers entering side yards
  • People parked inside a vehicle for an extended amount of time
  • People wearing clothing inconsistent with the weather

Stay alert and call 911 immediately to report anything suspicious.
